A poem on unrequited love and longing.

In the deep dark solitude of the evening
I find myself reaching out into the ether,
grasping desperately for you.

Should I face now a fitfully restless night
and my woes persist ‘til the sun shines anew
I will carry on and hold dear to me the hope
that one day you shall gaze upon me
with eyes which spill over with love for me,
as mine do for you.

I know you can see it;
you have mentioned to me before the way I look at you,
the nuance of my expressions.
I have told you it is involuntary and that is the truth.
I cannot help but let my adoration for you beam
like a spotlight from my eyes
or for my yearning for you to be on display
to you and everyone else
in the way I bite my lip
while I am watching yours move.

You are mesmerizing in a way I have not felt
in quite some time
and it feels simultaneously brand new
and comfortably familiar.
Loving you is easy
and making love to you is easier yet.
Let me be your moon.
I will remain in your orbit
and shine my love upon you
only as often as you desire,
though it will be within me all the while.
